Written by Reuben Yabuku, musical celebrating the life of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement.
This first-run Gospel Musical play about Martin Luther King focuses on his nonviolent movement’s Montgomery , Alabama Bus Boycott (ignited by Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her seat to a white patron on the bus in 1955), his Birmingham , Alabama protest for equal rights, and other monumental struggles that lead to his horrific assassination in 1968.
This high energy Gospel Musical is song and dance driven.Great songs with powerful and interpretive dance numbers are experienced throughout the show.Hear Martin’s eloquent and fiery words from speeches, sermons, protest rallies and press conferences.
This musical shows that Martin said a lot more than the terse “I Have A Dream” excerpt that we only hear on MLK Day.This play shows that Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke and acted with passion and, though advocating nonviolence, was an extremely strong and determined leader.

New McCree Theatre’s Innovative Performing Arts EducationalPrograms are a beacon of light to inner city at-risk youth and young adults, who seek to pursue the arts for career or appreciation purposes, and who, at the same time, want to remove themselves from the dangers that stalk them in the streets. We are writing this note to ask you to make a very special Christmas gift to a number of disadvantaged youth. The gift: a chance to participate in a Performing Arts Academy class of their choice.
Since reopening its doors in December 2004, over 500 young people have found the New McCree Theatre to be not only a place to hone their skills in dance, drama, and music, but a place that serves as a safe haven as well, a place where they can learn to be creative and constructive citizens. The City of Flint perennially ranks in the top five in the country in homicides. In 2008 the City experienced only 30 homicides. As of November 23 of this year, the city has already experienced 35+ homicides. While the homicide rate alone is not a barometer of the City’s quality of life, the fact that 90% of the victims of those homicides are youth or young adults is a serious indictment of the inability of the city’s institutions to impact our young people.
You can help one or more of these young people get off of the streets and into a productive activity by sponsoring a student today. Thank you for being proactive and contributing towards saving at least one young person’s life.
